In the depths of the pandemic, in Winter, 2020, with many businesses shut down or under construction, a friend found Harvard Square so depressing that she didn’t want to go there. But I went to one of the few open cafés for coffee nearly every day. One morning, with the Square in near ruins, I found myself snapping photos, trying to capture as much of the present as I could before it became the past. I was mesmerized by the light, the colors, the lines, the shapes, the shadows, and the reflections in the changing scene. I felt part of that scene, experiencing my own transformation. I left inspired, excited to see what the Square—and the world– would look like after Covid, after Trump, after a difficult winter, a difficult year–and what new futures we will create for ourselves and for one another. This book is my first step in that creation.
